Hi my name is Björn Ingi and I bought my first Suzuki just few years ago and that was a rusty 1988 model of Suzuki SJ413. The car was almost stock but whit a 2”body lift and 33” tires and that was it. I did a few repairs to it and soon the car was up and running and I had started on the road to my Suzuki addiction. This is my first Suzuki. My next Suzuki was 1993 Suzuki Vitara (Sidekick) also with 33” tires and body lift. It was a fun car do drive and had more power than the SJ413 and handled better and was a lot more comfortable drive.  My Suzuki Vitara. But this was not enough, I needed something more, something bigger and that led me to my current Suzuki .   It is heavily modified 1986 Suzuki SJ410 and you can almost say that there are only two things almost original in the car and that is the body and part of the frame. The engine is a 4 cylinder B230 from Volvo and the 5 speed gearbox is also from Volvo. Transfer box is the stock Suzuki unit and surprisingly it holds up very well. Dana axles from old Jeep CJ front and rear with lockers, but I am now changing to Toyota axles from short wheelbase Land Cruiser 70 and converting the suspension to coil springs in front. Rear suspension is 5 link air suspensions and the wheelbase has been increased about 10 inches by moving both front and rear axles and stretching the frame by same amount. Tires are 38” Monster Mudders on 14” wide 15” wheels and there is onboard air compressor for inflating the tires. The car has power steering from an old Mazda 929 and the radiator is from a Russian truck. Fuel tank is custom made and holds almost 40 gallons of fuel. Dashboard is from Suzuki SJ413 and the seats from Ford Escort. This Suzuki has been made in to a pickup truck and has only room for 2 persons. CB and VHF radios and I am planning on using a small laptop PC for navigation in connection with GPS receiver. The car is mostly used for fun and trips to the mountains in the winter when we can drive on top of the snow and go where ever we like to go. THIS IS TO HAVE FUN THE ICELANDIC WAY. |
